Follow the steps below to start using ControlD on your FireTV device. Keep in mind that the FireTV platform only supports Legacy DNS.
Navigate to the Settings in the top menu.
Open the My Fire TV section.
Go down to Network and write down or take a picture of the IP Address, Gateway, and Subnet Mask. You will need to refer to these later.
Now go back to the Settings again and open the Network section.
Navigate to the network you are connected to and press the ☰ button on your remote to Forget this Network. Confirm the action by pressing the center Select button on the remote.
Now select your WIFI network again, you will be prompted for the WIFI password.
Enter your WIFI password and press Advanced instead of connecting.
At this point you will need to enter the IP Address that you noted down in Step 3. Type it in and press Next.
Next, input the Gateway from Step 3 and press Next.
The Network Prefix Length will depend on the Subnet Mask you had in Step 3.
Most people will have
255.255.255.0 as their Subnet Mask which is a Prefix Length of
If your Subnet Mask is not
255.255.255.0 then refer to this chart to find what your Prefix Length is.
Finally you can input the ControlD DNS IP. If you're configuring our free DNS resolvers, you can use one of these:
If you are configuring a custom DNS resolver, you can find your custom DNS IP in the My Account section:
Enter the DNS IP you will use and press Next.
FireTV devices will also ask for a secondary DNS as a backup. Enter the same IP as Step 11 and press CONNECT.
You're all set! Your FireTV device should now connect to WIFI with the new settings you configured.
