Setting up the DNS on DD-WRT routers is fairly simple, follow the steps below to configure ControlD on your router.
Keep in mind that DD-WRT uses legacy DNS at the moment.
Open the router interface by navigating to it in your browser. In most cases you can reach it via
Navigate to the Setup tab followed by the Basic Setup section.
Now determine which DNS resolver you want to use. If you are configuring our free DNS resolvers, you can use these IPs:
If you are configuring a custom DNS resolver, you can find your custom DNS IP in the My Account section:
Scroll down to the section containing the Static DNS fields. DD-WRT allows you to configure 3 DNS resolvers but you can use just one or two if you prefer.
We will use just one IP in this case which is the IP you selected above. Enter it into the Static DNS 1 field.
Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page and press Apply Settings.
Once the router saves the configuration, you are using ControlD on your network!
Keep in mind that if you configure a custom DNS on any of the individual devices connected to this router, those devices will not be using the DNS you configured here.
